A Story Rooted in Nepal
My name is Swekriti Poudel, and I was born and raised in Nepal—a country shaped by towering Himalayan mountains, rich biodiversity, ancient traditions, and communities where craftsmanship has been passed down through generations.
Growing up, I was always drawn to handmade clothing and traditional textiles. At the time, I didn't know why. I simply loved the colours, textures, patterns, and the feeling that every handmade piece carried a story.
As I grew older, that curiosity became a deeper connection.
Through my passion for wildlife photography and my love for nature, I travelled across Nepal—beyond the busy cities and into rural communities where traditions continue to thrive.
There, I discovered something that changed the way I viewed clothing forever.
I met artisans whose families had spent generations working with natural fibres. I saw raw materials transformed into beautiful textiles through patience, skill, and traditional knowledge.
I realized clothing was never just something we wear.
It is a connection between people, culture, and nature.
The Moment Everything Changed
In 2023, I moved to Canada to pursue my postgraduate education and build a new future.
Like many newcomers, I started wherever opportunities were available.
My first retail experience introduced me to the world of modern fashion. As a student with a limited budget, I understood why affordable clothing was appealing. I was part of that world too.
Later, while working in an embroidery company for more than two years, I saw thousands of garments pass through every day.
I began noticing something.
Many of these products were made from synthetic materials, produced quickly, and designed for short-term use.
The more I learned, the more I found myself thinking about the traditions I had grown up around—the natural fibres, the skilled hands, and the slower approach to creating things.
I started asking myself:
Why are some of the world's finest natural fibres and traditional crafts becoming harder to find while mass production continues to grow?
That question became Himalore.
Why Himalore Exists?
Himalore is more than a clothing brand.
It is a bridge between Himalayan craftsmanship and conscious customers in North America.
I dream of a future where skilled artisans can build meaningful careers without having to leave the communities they call home.
By connecting Himalayan craftsmanship with customers in Canada and beyond, I hope to create opportunities that preserve traditional skills, strengthen local livelihoods, and show that sustainable craftsmanship still has a place in today's world.
